Buying The Dip

Investors were buying the dip – this was at least apparent in the DAX that took out the 15500-handle and surged toward 15900 in a next leg up. Early evidence that omicron cases haven’t overwhelmed hospitals appears to have calmed the markets. Risk assets recovered.

However, there are warnings that buying-the-dip could be too early as turbulences could continue.

DAX

The index stabilized above 15500 and headed toward 15900 in a next move. Whether we will see a test of 16000 depends on investors’ risk appetite but it seems as if there could be further room for the bulls. 16000 is the next bullish target.

Euro Weakness Likely to Resume

Friday’s U.S. nonfarm payrolls report showed with 210k jobs in November the smallest gain this year while the unemployment rate fell by more than forecast to 4.2 percent. Despite that mixed picture in November, the Federal Reserve could be on track to possibly tighten policy faster than planned as inflation proves more persistent than previously thought.

The focus this week shifts to the U.S. consumer price report on Friday which is likely to show the highest inflation since 1982. In addition, the emerging omicron covid-19 variant is also presenting upside risks for inflation. With this in mind, the Fed could be poised to announce a faster taper which is why the U.S. dollar could remain in demand.

EUR/USD – Euro weakness is likely to resume

With the Fed’s hawkish pivot and the ECB’s further dovish course there is little hope for euro bulls turning the tables. For the sentiment to change from bearish to bullish it would need a 180-degree U-turn by the European Central bank which is not impossible but it would hurt the ECB’s credibility. Until at least February we might not get a course reversal from the ECB.

Technically, if the euro falls below 1.1270 and further 1.1240, we expect the pair to extend losses toward 1.12 and maybe even toward a lower target at 1.11. For bullish momentum to accelerate we need to see a break above 1.1360 and further above 1.14.

GBP/USD: As long as the cable is unable to stabilize above 1.33, we expect the pair to drop toward 1.31 and further 1.30.

Wait-And-See Mode

Not much has changed in the forex market on Wednesday with the market being in a wait-and-see mode. The omicron variant creates uncertainty for the economic outlook and while tightening central bank policies fight inflation, the omicron variant threatens to impede the economic recovery. Many questions about the strain still remain unanswered and investors will keep a close eye on how governments chose to respond. In case of new strict lockdowns, the market’s mood will quickly change and bears will gain control across the board. In absence of immediate lockdowns, the currencies’ performance will hinge on risk appetite.

EUR/USD: We anticipate the euro to trade between 1.1420 and 1.1250.

GBP/USD: Below 1.3240, we expect further losses toward 1.3170 while on the upside, we see a next resistance at around 1.34.

Markets Returned to Normal After Hawkish Powell

We saw a strong market reaction with a broad-based sell-off on Tuesday after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell signaled his appetite for faster tapering of the Fed’s stimulus, speaking unexpectedly in a more hawkish tone. He warned that high inflation could justify ending asset purchases sooner than planned. On top of that, bearish momentum accelerated amidst anxiety around the coronavirus.  Stocks and counterparts of the greenback fell sharply following Powell’s testimony.

However, markets returned to normal following the hawkish shift while EUR/USD and GBP/USD finally ended yesterday’s trading day virtually unchanged.

EUR/USD: We still see some room for a bullish extension toward 1.1430, provided that the euro is able to hold above 1.1250.

GBP/USD: The cable plunged to a low of 1.3194 before stabilizing above 1.3280. We now see a next higher target at 1.3450. Falling again below 1.3240 we will turn our focus to a lower price target at 1.3150.

Daily Forex, DAX And Crypto Signals

Both EUR/USD and GBP/USD remained trading in relatively tight price ranges on Monday.

EUR/USD: Remaining above 1.1270, we favor the uptrend with a first higher target at 1.1360. However, a break below 1.1250 would change the current sentiment again in favor of the bears with lower targets seen at 1.12 and 1.11.

GBP/USD: As long as 1.3270 remains unbroken, we anticipate a run for 1.34 and maybe even 1.35.

Inmitten ansteigender Volatilität flohen Anleger in sichere Häfen.

Relief Rally After Sell-Off?

Welcome to a new trading week. The demand for riskier assets is taking a hit amid a new surge in covid-19 cases and uncertainty concerning the new omicron strain. Investors fled into save havens as volatility spiked. Early reports from parts of Africa suggest that the strain could be more contagious than previous variants but the impact on health may not be as severe. Investors now wait for more clarity around the consequences of omicron. However, the market got used to trade covid variants and prices touched all-time highs when the fog is clearing. Traders should thus expect the same for omicron.

The U.S. dollar remains in the spotlight this week as the U.S. November NFP report on Friday will likely further fuel expectations of faster Federal Reserve tapering. An upbeat report could keep the dollar rally going.

GBP/USD – Time for a reversal?

From a technical perspective, the pair seems to be ready for a recovery after hitting 1.33 and entering oversold territory. As long as the cable remains above 1.3250 and even better above 1.33, we see chances of a leg up with a first higher target seen at 1.35 followed by 1.36.

DAX – Falling like a stone

After last week’s sharp sell-off that sent the DAX tumbling below the 16000-mark, the index only found some halt at the next crucial 15000-mark. Whether that support holds, remains to be seen and depends on investor’s risk-off mood. If 15000 breaks, we see a next support at 14800 followed by 14500. On the upside, a next resistance comes in at 15800.

Have a good week everyone.

DAX Sells Off Amid Risk Aversion

The Thanksgiving week was dominated by a cautious mood and thus, a rally in safe havens amid concerns over a new coronavirus variant thwarting the recovery in the world’s economy. Additionally, thin liquidity around the U.S. holiday intensifies the risk-off sentiment.

In short, those who followed the trend at the beginning of the week, profited.

The biggest loser was the DAX which dropped like a stone and broke below all recent support levels. Trading around 15600 earlier this morning, we now see a next lower support zone between 15500 and 15400. With covid cases spiking in Europe, a new bull run above 16000 becomes less likely in the near-term.

We wish everyone a beautiful weekend.
